In an effort to ensure free and fair polling in the upcoming assembly elections, the Jammu and Kashmir authorities are leaving no stone unturned. From leveraging advanced technology to mobilising security forces, the preparations are in full swing to effectively conduct the polls.

For the first time, the Doda district authorities have installed CCTV cameras at all 534 polling booths, with live monitoring from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The surveillance setup has also been done at special Nakas to monitor road activities.

Emphasising preparations for the upcoming polls, Harvinder Singh, District Election Officer Doda, said, “One of the main focus of this upcoming Assembly election is surveillance. We have 27 static surveillance teams; they will work on 3 shifts at the borders and 9 nakas for 24 hours, that too with CCTV cameras.”

“We have 27 flying squad teams as well, who are working and putting surprise nakas and raids in different places based on the actionable inputs and complaints. We are live telecasting the CCTVs at our 534 polling stations, we are going to monitor 534 polling stations live for 24 hours through CCTV,” he added.

The security arrangements were also heightened in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, said the officials. The visuals showed heavy deployment of security forces in the region, news agency ANI reported.

Central Govt Deploys Security Troops in J-K

For the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir in ten years, the Union government deployed paramilitary forces in response to the recent terror attacks in the mountainous Jammu area.

In total, around 900 companies, each comprising 110 personnel, have been assigned to ensure security and handle election responsibilities. This deployment came in addition to the regular presence of the local police force in the J-K region.

The Indian Army along with the Border Security Force (BSF) has stepped up the surveillance along the 744 km Line of Control (LoC) and the 198 km international border.
