India & China Reach Key Agreement To Restore Stability Along LAC, Says Rajnath

FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India and China have reached a significant agreement to restore stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

This consensus marks an important step forward in resolving ongoing tensions between the two nations.

Speaking after virtually inaugurating the ‘Desh ka Vallabh’ statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing ‘Museum of Valour’ in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, Singh emphasized the diplomatic and military discussions that have been taking place.

The Defence Minister stated, “India and China have been holding talks at both diplomatic and military levels to resolve the differences in some areas along the LAC. As a result of the talks, a broad consensus was developed on the basis of equal and mutual security. The consensus includes the rights of patrolling and grazing in traditional areas. Based on this consensus, the process of disengagement is almost complete. Our efforts will be to take the matter beyond disengagement but for that, we will have to wait a little longer.”

Singh virtually inaugurated the event from the 4 Corps Headquarters in Tezpur, Assam, as bad weather prevented him from traveling to Tawang.

The event coincided with Diwali celebrations and the annual observance of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’, which honors the birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

‘Strength In Unity Essential For A Diverse Nation’

In his address, Singh praised Patel, affectionately known as the ‘Iron Man of India,’ for his pivotal role in the unification of over 560 princely states post-independence.

“This statue ‘Desh Ka Vallabh’ will inspire people, reminding them of the strength in unity and the unwavering spirit required to build a nation as diverse as ours,” Singh further asserted.

Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to Major Bob Khathing, a key figure in the peaceful integration of Tawang into India. He highlighted Khathing’s efforts in establishing vital military and security frameworks, including the Sashastra Seema Bal and the Naga Regiment.

The Defence Minister remarked, “Major Khathing not only led the peaceful integration of Tawang into India but also established essential military and security frameworks, including the Sashastra Seema Bal, Nagaland Armed Police, and the Naga Regiment. The ‘Museum of Valour’ now stands as a tribute to his bravery and foresight, inspiring generations to come.”

Unity & Development Go Hand In Hand: Rajnath Singh

Additionally, Rajnath Singh stressed the importance of unity and the unique role of the northeast in shaping India’s identity. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for comprehensive economic and infrastructure development in the region.

“Holistic development of the nation is possible only when the Northeast prospers. We will create such a Northeast which is strong and prosperous not only naturally and culturally but also economically,” Singh added.

The Defence Minister underscored the contributions of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in enhancing regional progress, particularly highlighting the Sela Tunnel, which connects Assam to Tawang.

He also mentioned the upcoming Arunachal Frontier Highway project, which will span 2,000 kilometers and serve as a strategic and economic asset for the region.

Furthermore, Rajnath Singh stated, “In the times to come, the Arunachal Frontier Highway project will play a major role in connecting the entire Northeast region, especially the border areas. This 2,000-km long highway will prove to be an important strategic and economic asset for the region as well as the entire nation.”

Rajnath Singh Commends Armed Forces For Their Vital Role In Northeast Development & Security

Singh also praised the Armed Forces for their involvement in the region. He highlighted their contributions through NCC initiatives, local economic support, and vital disaster relief operations.

“Armed Forces not only provide security but also become a medium for development in that region by cooperating with the people of the border areas. This further strengthens India’s commitment to ensuring development, peace, and security in the Northeast region of India,” the Defence Minister added.

Notable figures attended the inauguration event, including Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd), Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, and the family of Major Bob Khathing.

Senior military officials, including Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, joined the event virtually, marking a significant moment for both the region and the nation.
