Shopian, Feb 18 (KNO): A young girl from South Kashmir’s Shopian district has been selected for National Khelo Pencak Silat Women’s League, scheduled to be held in Maharashtra.

Mehreen Aashiq (15), a resident of Nowgam in Vehil hamlet of South Kashmir’s Shopian, has brought laurels to J&K by winning a gold medal in Khelo India Pencak Silat Women’s League.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mehreen said that she has been inclined towards sports since her childhood and used to take part in different games.

Before this league, Mehreen said that she has played two nationals in Bihar and in J&K and one federation Cup at Ladakh.

She said that winning gold at any stage encourages you to do better further and perform well in upcoming events. “I started training so that I can perform well in the upcoming national event so as to win gold there as well,” she said.

Mehreen said that engaging youth in sports activities is very important in preventing drug use and antisocial behavior, as it provides a positive outlet, builds self-esteem, promotes healthy habits, fosters a sense of community, and teaches valuable life skills like teamwork and discipline, effectively acting as a protective factor against negative influences.

In her message to the youth of J&K, she said that everyone is talented and one can show their talent only when they participate in respective events and for games you need to participate in various games at school level.

She further added that Khelo Indian Mission provides opportunities to all and youth must participate in it and save themselves and their families from the menace of drug addiction.

She expressed her happiness over the sports infrastructure that is being prepared in the J&K and take benefit of every opportunity they are getting anywhere—(KNO)
