Over 3 Lakh Pucca Houses Built Under PMAY In Jammu & Kashmir

FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, recently reported the completion of over three lakh ‘pucca’ houses in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

As of March 18, 2025, the authorities have constructed a total of 3,04,544 houses-2,60,124 in Jammu and 44,420 in Kashmir.

This significant achievement has been a key development in improving housing infrastructure across the region.

The minister also stated that a fresh survey is currently underway to include all eligible households in the scheme, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

The initiative aims to address the housing needs of the rural population and significantly improve living conditions.

Top Districts With Housing Progress

Among the districts, Rajouri has seen the highest number of completed houses, with 55,829, followed by Poonch with 46,752 houses.

Other notable districts include Ramban (31,714), Doda (28,097), and Reasi (26,449).

In Kashmir, Anantnag led the progress with 9,999 houses, while Kupwara followed with 9,775 houses.

Land Allocation For Landless PMAY Beneficiaries

In a related development, the government has addressed the challenges faced by landless beneficiaries under PMAY.

For those without land but eligible for housing assistance, the government is allotting five marlas of state land to ensure they can avail the benefits of the scheme.

In a separate issue, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the assembly that fire incidents across Jammu and Kashmir destroyed over 1,200 houses in the past two years.

He revealed that in 2023-24, fires destroyed 574 houses, and the number rose to 714 in 2024-25.

Districts like Kishtwar, Kupwara, and Anantnag saw the highest number of affected households.

To support those impacted, the government provides ₹1.30 lakh in compensation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to individuals whose houses are completely gutted.

Meanwhile, the completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is advancing the government’s broader goal of improving infrastructure and the quality of life in rural areas.

Additionally, ongoing efforts to cover more households and address challenges faced by landless beneficiaries are helping Jammu and Kashmir make steady progress toward better housing and social welfare standards.
