Srinagar, Apr 10 :  While highlighting the issue of a 35-year-old trader missing from Delhi since 16 February 2025, Member Assembly Sopore Irshad Rasool Kaar has brought the matter into the notice of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Member Assembly Sopore urgently requested for the formation of a Joint SIT in the missing person case of Shabir Ahmad Shah (GD No. 0025A, PS Nabi Karim, Delhi), said that in his letter, a copy of which is with JKNS, Irshad Rasool Kaar wrote: I am writing to bring to your immediate attention a matter of grave concern regarding the lack of progress in the investigation of Shabir Ahmad Shah Age: 35 years S/O Late Ghulam Nabi Shah, a resident of my constituency, who has been missing since 16th February 2025 after checking out from Continental Hotel, Delhi.
Member Assembly Sopore informed the Chief Minister that a General Diary entry (GD No. 0025A) was registered at Police Station Nabi Karim, Central District, Delhi, on 20th February 2025, but despite repeated follow-ups by the family, no substantive progress has been made in locating him. The family is distraught and fears for his safety, given the prolonged silence from the investigating authorities.
Irshad Rasool Kaar further said that what is particularly alarming is the inordinate delay in tracing Shabir Ahmad Shah even after an elapse of around 2 months. The family has not been informed of any concrete steps taken by Delhi Police, raising serious questions about the efficacy of the probe. Given the sensitive nature of this case involving a Kashmiri resident disappearing in the national capital, and considering the growing anxiety of the family, this matter demands urgent higher-level intervention.
Member Assembly Sopore Irshad Rasool Kaar requested that in view of these circumstances, I strongly urge your office to constitute a Joint Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior officers from JK Police and relevant central agencies along with Delhi Police to ensure a swift, transparent and credible investigation. I also request your directions to the Delhi Police to expedite the case and provide regular updates to the grieving family. Your prompt intervention in this humanitarian matter would not only help deliver justice but also reinforce faith in our system.
In his letter, Member Assembly Sopore lastly said that I would be grateful for your earliest action in this regard. Please consider this matter with the urgency it deserves. (JKNS)
