Tangdhar, Kupwara | May 18, 2025: “They never chose war, but they live its horror daily. In Tangdhar near the Line of Control, shelling reduces homes to rubble. The people ask for nothing but peace — and bunkers to survive,” said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti during her visit to the shell-ravaged border areas of North Kashmir on Sunday.
Accompanied by senior party leadership and legislators, Mehbooba Mufti toured the devastated villages of Tangdhar in Kupwara district, where recent cross-border shelling has caused severe damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving several families displaced.
“These images from Tangdhar’s shell-ravaged borders capture the silent screams of loss and longing for peace,” she said. “Homes reduced to rubble, lives lost, children and elderly scarred by fear and grief. These pictures scream pain, yet they yearn for peace.”
The PDP delegation interacted with affected civilians, many of whom shared stories of trauma and constant fear. The party called on authorities to expedite relief measures and construct protective bunkers to safeguard lives in the border areas.
