Srinagar, July 21: The three-day Asmita Pencak Silat League 2025 concluded successfully at the Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, Srinagar. Held from July 19 to 21, the event saw the participation of over 500 female athletes from various districts across Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant step towards empowering women through sports.

Organised under the Khelo India initiative, the Asmita League aimed to promote sporting excellence, provide a platform for emerging women athletes, and foster a vibrant martial arts culture in the region.

In a symbolic and inspiring gesture, the award ceremony was conducted by the mothers of participating athletes, highlighting the vital role of women as both supporters and sources of strength in the sports ecosystem.

The event also reaffirmed Kashmir’s growing identity as a venue for major national and international sporting events. The J&K Sports Council will soon host the prestigious Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship in Srinagar from September 25 to 30, 2025, with over 15 countries expected to participate.

Athletes from across India, particularly Kashmir, have expressed their excitement, stating that such events will play a crucial role in boosting sports tourism, encouraging local talent, and placing Kashmir on the global sporting map.

In a move to further promote competitive opportunities, the Pencak Silat Association of J&K will conduct selection trials for the 9th Pencak Silat Federation Cup 2025 on July 29, 2025, at the Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, Srinagar. These trials are open to junior boys and girls, as well as senior men and women athletes across various weight categories and events.

Additionally, the Association is also organizing the Open Kashmir Pencak Silat Championship, scheduled to be held from August 7 to 8, 2025, offering another platform for athletes to showcase their skills and promote martial arts in the region.
