Says Advisory Issued, People Advised to Stay Cautious as Rains Continue in Parts of UT; 32 Still Missing in Kishtwar, Rescue Efforts Continue, Govt Assures Rehabilitation of Affected Families

Nadeem Nadu

Jammu, Aug 24 (KNC): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said the administration is making every possible effort to provide treatment, rehabilitation, and relief to those affected by the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar.

Speaking to media persons at GMC Jammu, where he met the injured undergoing treatment, LG Sinha told news agency Kashmir News Corner—KNC, “As of now, 16 people are admitted here and their condition is stable. I hope they all recover soon and are able to return to their homes. Many people unfortunately lost their lives in the incident, and despite best efforts, bodies of several missing persons were retrieved. Still, 32 people are missing and rescue operations are underway. Around ₹4 crore 13 lakh have already been distributed as relief.”

The LG assured that affected families will be fully supported. “For those hit by this tragedy, the Government of India and the J&K administration are fully committed to their rehabilitation and welfare,” he said.

On being asked about Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s scheduled visit to Kishtwar, LG Sinha said, “If the weather permits, he will visit Kishtwar. If not, he will come to GMC Jammu to meet the injured.”

Commenting on the heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha said advisories have been issued and people have been asked to remain cautious. “Most parts are witnessing heavy rain. Such weather systems are being experienced across the country and in J&K too. SDRF and NDRF teams are on alert. I hope no major mishap occurs,” the LG remarked. (KNC)
