Srinager Jan 9(CNS) Both Army porters who had slipped and fallen into a nallah while heading towards a forward post in the Upper Gulmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district were found dead on Friday, officials said.

According to officials, the tragic incident took place on Thursday evening when the two porters were on their way to Anita Post, a forward post that remains cut off during winter due to heavy snowfall. While navigating the snow-covered and slippery terrain, they reportedly lost their balance and fell into a nallah.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams were rushed to the spot and a search operation was launched despite extremely harsh weather, deep snow, and challenging terrain. After sustained efforts, the bodies of both porters were recovered.

The deceased were identified as Layakat Ahmad Deedard (27), son of Ghulam Mohammad Deedard of Masjid Aagan Chandoosa, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana (33), son of Jamal-ud-Din Khatana of Pachar Chandoosa, both residents of Baramulla district.
Officials said that further legal and administrative formalities are being carried out as per procedure.
