Landslide Blocks Kishtwar–Thathri Road, Traffic Comes to Halt

FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Kishtwar Jan 24, KNT: Vehicular traffic on the Kishtwar–Thathri road was brought to a complete halt on Saturday after a landslide blocked the road at multiple points, officials said.

The landslide, triggered by recent snowfall and unstable weather conditions, resulted in heavy debris falling onto the roadway, making the stretch impassable for vehicles. Commuters and travellers were left stranded as authorities immediately suspended traffic movement to avoid any mishap.

Officials said restoration work has been taken up on priority, with men and machinery deployed to clear the debris and restore road connectivity. However, the process is progressing cautiously due to the risk of further slides in the area.

Authorities have advised locals and travellers to avoid the route until clearance operations are completed and the road is declared safe for movement. They said traffic will be restored only after thorough clearance and safety assessment.  [KNT]
