Jammu, Jan 24, KNT: A portion of Platform Number 2 at Jammu Railway Station collapsed while the Shalimar Express was passing through the station, triggering temporary disruption of train services, officials said.

The incident occurred during the movement of the Shalimar Express, causing concern among passengers and railway staff present at the station. Officials said no injuries were reported in the incident, as the affected portion did not directly impact the coaches of the passing train.

Following the collapse, railway authorities immediately suspended train movement through the affected platform and launched restoration work. Men and machinery were pressed into service to clear debris and stabilise the damaged section to ensure safe operations.

Officials said restoration work was completed within nearly two hours, after which train services were resumed. Safety inspections were carried out before allowing the resumption of rail traffic to prevent any further risk.

Railway authorities said the exact cause of the platform collapse is being ascertained, and a detailed assessment of the damage is underway. [KNT]
