Srinagar, Jan 29: Amid outcry over the attack on an 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller that left him with a fractured arm and bruises all over his body, Dehradun Police have arrested the main accused and identified another attacker, officials said today.

In a post on X, Dehradun Police wrote, “In the aforementioned case, the police, acting swiftly, have registered a case under Section 117(2)/352 of the BNS at Vikas Nagar Police Station (Case No. 26/2026) against Sanjay Yadav and another individual involved in the incident. The accused Sanjay Yadav has been taken into custody, and necessary legal action is being taken.”

Highlighting the incident on social media, Jammu and Kashmir Students Association President, Nasir Kheuhami wrote on X that the boy was selling shawls along with his family in the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand when he was brutally assaulted by “fringe elements.”

“He was attacked by a group of people, beaten mercilessly, and left with multiple bruises all over his body. His left arm has been fractured, and he sustained serious head injuries after being struck with iron rods. He was initially shifted to a local hospital and has now been referred to Doon Hospital, Dehradun. Blood was reportedly oozing from his head following the assault,” Kheuhami wrote on X.

“His relatives told me that, he was first questioned about his identity. Upon learning that the family belonged to the Muslim community and was from Kashmir, the violence escalated. The boy was punched repeatedly, while other family members were dragged, slapped, and attacked with sharp iron rods,” he added.
