Jammu, Feb 03 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, seeking an urgent discussion on the safety of Kashmiri students and workers in other states.
The motion, submitted to the Assembly Secretariat, calls for setting aside the listed business of the House to take up what it describes as a “matter of urgent public importance.”
In his notice, accessed by news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the Pulwama MLA cited “continuous and deeply disturbing incidents,” including hate crimes, intimidation, and physical assaults faced by members of the Kashmiri community living outside the Union Territory.
The notice expresses particular concern for students in hostels and rented accommodations, as well as labourers, who have allegedly been subjected to verbal abuse, threats, forced evictions, and violence. It states that such reports have created an “atmosphere of fear and insecurity” among Kashmiri youth and “constant anxiety” for their families in Jammu and Kashmir.
The motion argues that the issue involves fundamental constitutional rights, impacts a large number of citizens, and could affect national integration, warranting immediate intervention.

According to the notice, the proposed debate aims to Express the legislature’s concern, Demand immediate security measures, Seek intervention from the J&K Chief Minister and the Union Home Ministry, Recommend practical steps such as helplines and safe accommodation, and Send a strong message against identity-based discrimination.
Para emphasised the “gravity of the situation,” stating it cannot await normal scheduling. (KNS)
