Srinagar, Feb 12, KNT: Daily wagers and casual labourers from various government departments on Thursday staged a protest at Sher-i-Kashmir Park in Srinagar, demanding immediate regularization of their services.

Scores of workers, accompanied by their children, gathered inside the park and raised slogans seeking justice and a clear policy decision from the government. Protesters were seen holding placards highlighting their long years of service and financial hardships.

The agitating workers said many among them have been serving different departments for over two decades but continue to remain on temporary status without job security, fixed pay structure, or service benefits. They expressed resentment over what they described as prolonged neglect of their demands despite repeated assurances over the years.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajad Parray said daily wagers across departments have consistently discharged their duties in essential public services yet remain without regular status. He said the uncertainty surrounding their employment has severely impacted their families and children, many of whom were present during the demonstration.

The protesters urged the administration to frame and implement a comprehensive and time-bound regularization policy applicable to daily wagers across departments. They maintained that their extended tenure and contribution to public services justify permanent employment. They called for a march towards National Conference office on February 16.

The protest remained peaceful, with police personnel deployed in the area to maintain order. The workers said they would continue their struggle until a formal decision is taken regarding their regularization. [KNT]
