Srinagar, June 14: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a spell of unsettled weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming week, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at scattered places across the Union Territory.

According to the weather advisory, the region is likely to witness partly to generally cloudy conditions accompanied by light rain, brief intense showers and thunderstorm activity at various locations through June 17.

The forecast further indicates that weather conditions will remain generally cloudy on June 18 and 19, with one or two spells of light rain or showers expected at scattered places.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of the possibility of thunder, lightning and hailstorms at isolated locations during the forecast period.

Officials said gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, occasionally gusting up to 60 kilometers per hour, may accompany thunderstorm activity in some areas.

The advisory has cautioned residents, farmers, travelers and outdoor workers to remain vigilant, particularly during periods of thunderstorm activity and strong winds.

Weather officials have advised people to follow official forecasts and take necessary precautions in vulnerable areas prone to lightning strikes, localized flooding or weather-related disruptions. [KNT]
