MS Dhoni’s run-out in the ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final still remains a bitter pill to swallow for the Indian fans. His dismissal led to a dramatic turn in the game as the men-in-blue lost the encounter by 18 runs and were knocked out of the tournament.

The Virat Kohli-led side was on an exceptional run with 7 wins in 9 matches and ended at the top of the points table but. But their journey took a hit in the rain-affected semi-final. India suffered a horrendous top-order collapse in the chase of 240 before Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni came to the rescue. However, their dismissals shattered India’s hopes in England.

Rohit Sharma, the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 648 runs and five centuries, expressed that Dhoni should have batted at number four. In an old which is now going viral, Rohit could be heard saying,

“I personally always feel that him batting at number 4 is ideal for the team. It totally depends on how the captain (Virat) and the coach think about it. Personally, I would be happy if he (Dhoni) bats at number four.”

In the crucial semi-final, Dhoni batted at number seven, scoring 50 runs off 72 balls before being run out by Martin Guptill. It turned out to be the legendary wicketkeeper-batter’s last outing for India as he announced his retirement the next year, on August 15, 2020, via an Instagram post.

“Thanks a lot for your support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”, he said in a post on Instagram

MS Dhoni is the only captain in the history of cricket to win all ICC trophies in the white-ball formats. India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 under his captaincy, followed by the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
