Srinagar, Sep 26: Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, has issued a weather update for Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Ahmad, a spell of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected during the night, followed by widespread rainfall in many parts of the region until tomorrow morning.

However, after this brief period of rain, the weather will clear up, and no significant rainfall is expected until October 5.

“A spell of rain is on its way tonight, and we anticipate widespread showers across Jammu and Kashmir. Thunderstorms and lightning will also occur in some areas,” said Mukhtar Ahmad as per news agency KINS.

He said that “by tomorrow, the weather will improve, and there is no forecast of rainfall until October 5.”

Ahmad provided clear guidance, stating, “Farmers can resume their activities after 18 to 20 hours when this spell of rain subsides. From tomorrow afternoon, they can continue their work without interruption.”

The latest Weather Update issued by the MET Centre for Jammu and Kashmir offers further details on the weather forecast for the upcoming days:

26-27th September: A spell of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms is expected at many places starting in the late evening and lasting until the forenoon of the 27th.

28-30th September: Generally dry weather, with the possibility of a brief spell of rain or thunder at isolated locations on the 28th.

1-5th October: The region is likely to experience generally dry weather.

Additionally, an advisory has been issued, warning of “thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places,” with a slight possibility of light snow over the higher reaches during the night of September 26.

“Farmers are advised to safely store their harvested crops,” the advisory noted, urging caution in the wake of the expected weather changes. ( KINS)

JAMMU, Apr 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday inaugurated the Dr Raj Kumar Thapa memorial museum and library, dedicated to the legacy of the additional district development commissioner, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Thapa lost his life on (May 10) last year when a Pakistani artillery shell hit his residential quarters in the border district during unprovoked shelling linked to Operation Sindoor. He is survived by his wife, a doctor, and their two children. Paying tributes, the lieutenant governor recalled Thapa’s selfless service and unwavering commitment to public welfare, saying the memorial would serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come, an official spokesperson said. A documentary highlighting Thapa’s life and service was also screened on the occasion, he said. Family members of Thapa, along with senior officials of the security forces, police and civil administration, were present at the event. A 2001-batch Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer, Thapa (54) was widely respected for his professional dedication and people-friendly approach. He had been posted as ADDC Rajouri in March last year and played a key role in handling the situation in the Badhaal village, where 17 members of three families, including 13 children, died under mysterious circumstances after falling ill between December 7 and January 19. Prior to his posting in Rajouri, he served as the officer on special Duty to former deputy chief minister Tara Chand from 2009 to 2014. He also held key positions, including the mission director of the Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission and special secretary in the Labour and Employment Department.City & Local Guides
