Indian Railways will soon connect Kashmir Valley directly to the rest of India. This follows the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The project, completed in phases, aims to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the region.

Trial Runs Begin on Katra-Reasi Section

Railways has started trial runs on the Katra-Reasi section. This 18-km stretch is an important part of the USBRL project. Officials are testing track stability, tunnel ventilation, and signalling systems during the trials. The section features advanced infrastructure and world-class passenger amenities.

Jammu and Kashmir To Get  New Railway Division

The Ministry of Railways plans to create a new railway division for Jammu and Kashmir. Currently, the region falls under Northern Railway’s Firozpur Division. A senior official confirmed that the new Jammu Division will begin functioning in 2025.

The new division will enhance passenger convenience and support railway employees. It will also boost connectivity and promote economic growth in the region.

Overview of Indian Railways’ Network

Indian Railways manages 17 zones and 68 divisions. These include zones like Central, Eastern, and Northern Railways. The addition of the Jammu Division will expand this network and improve services in the Union Territory.

Indian Railways remains committed to modernizing infrastructure and improving connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
