"PDP’s Parra Rebukes JKNC: ‘Once Appointed Sadr-e-Riyasat, Now Obsessed with Transfers’

Srinagar, Apr 4, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed ur Rehman Parra has launched a pointed critique of the National Conference-led ruling alliance, accusing it of abandoning the political legacy it once fiercely upheld. Parra drew a stark contrast between the past and present, recalling a time when the state exercised significant autonomy—appointing its own Sadr-e-Riyasat and Prime Minister—only to now see its leadership preoccupied with administrative reshuffles and Tehsildar-level appointments.

He lamented that political discourse has been reduced to bureaucratic trivialities, while critical milestones such as the abrogation of Article 370 passed without unified resistance. “When 50 MLAs can join hands over KAS transfers, why couldn’t they unite against the stripping of our constitutional rights?” he asked, questioning the alliance’s priorities and its willingness to cede political space.

Parra further criticized the leadership’s failure to assert itself through decisive actions—be it the independent appointment of an Advocate General, nominating MLAs, or steadfastly upholding the resolution on Article 370. He argued that such moves could have preserved a sense of agency within governance structures.

Raising concerns over the erosion of historical memory, Parra said the alliance had reduced events like July 13 to symbolic gestures and turned critical legislation such as the Waqf Bill into hollow rhetoric. He noted the irony of a cabinet now grumbling about bureaucratic overreach—bureaucracy it had once defended through prolonged legislative sessions.

Parra’s remarks come amid intense political deliberations, with the Chief Minister and coalition partners currently locked in meetings over governance and upcoming electoral strategies, underlining the growing unease within political circles about the direction of regional leadership. [KNT]
