Riyan Rafiq: The Young Calligraphy Artist from Kashmir Creating Waves with His Pen

Srinagar Jun 26, ( KB) : In a world increasingly ruled by digital art and typing keyboards, a young boy from Soura Srinagar is bringing back the magic of handwritten beauty.

Riyan Rafiq, a 9th-grade student who has captured hearts and attention with his extraordinary calligraphy skills — proving that age is just a number when it comes to talent.

Riyan Rafiq is not your typical teenager. While many his age spend their free time on mobile games or social media, Riyan spends hours perfecting strokes, letters, and intricate designs with ink and paper.

“I picked up a pen and just started writing — it felt like magic,” says Riyan with a humble smile. “At first it was just a hobby, but soon people started appreciating my work, and that gave me motivation to improve.”

“I want to show the world that Kashmir is not just about beauty and conflict, but also about creativity, peace, and talent,”

“Behind every young star is a quiet supporter. For Riyan, that support comes from his cousin Simran, who believed in his gift when few even noticed.”

“From the first time I saw his work, I knew he had something special. He didn’t learn from any big institute — it’s all self-taught. He’s an inspiration, not just for our family, but for all Kashmiri youth.”

Parents and local residents are also in awe of Riyan’s dedication. They believe he reflects the hidden talent that lies in many Kashmiri youths, waiting for a chance to be nurtured and recognized.

In an era where handwriting is fast becoming a forgotten art, Riyan Rafiq is a breath of fresh ink. With passion in his heart and a pen in his hand, he is rewriting the narrative of young Kashmiri artists — (KB)
