Our Relationship With Both India And Pakistan Is ‘Good’: US

America’s relationship with both India and Pakistan is “good”, the US State Department has said, asserting that the diplomats are “committed to both nations”.
Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the US working with both nations is good news for the region and the world, and will promote a beneficial future.

“I would say that our relationship with both nations is as it has been, which is good. And that is the benefit of having a President who knows everyone, talks to everyone, and that is how we can bring differences together in this case. So it’s clear that the diplomats here are committed to both nations,” Bruce said.

She was responding to a question on the possibility of increased U.S. assistance to Islamabad in terms of arms sales following Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir’s meeting with Mr. Trump, and whether this was coming at the cost of Mr. Trump’s relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Referring to the May conflict between India and Pakistan, Ms. Bruce added, “Obviously, we had an experience with Pakistan and India when there was a conflict, one that could have developed into something quite horrible.” She said that there was “immediate concern and immediate movement” with Vice President J.D. Vance, President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in “addressing the nature of what was happening….we described the nature of the phone calls, the work that we did to stop the attacks and to then bring the parties together so we could have something that was enduring.” She also claimed that top leaders in the U.S. were involved in “stopping that potential catastrophe.” India has been maintaining that India and Pakistan halted their military actions following direct talks between their militaries without any mediation by the U.S.

Ms. Bruce added that the recent peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan “follows negotiated peace arrangements between Cambodia and Thailand, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia and Serbia and Kosovo.” Meanwhile, in an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Rubio said that “credit goes to” Mr. Trump for helping bring several conflicts around the world to an end.

Mr. Trump says he wants “to be the President of peace. And so any time we see a conflict where we think we can make a difference, we get involved, and we’ve had good success in that regard. India-Pakistan, Thailand-Cambodia, the peace deal with Azerbaijan and Armenia, just a few days ago,” he said in an interview with ‘Sid and Friends in the Morning’. (Agencies)

Pakistan Will Not Allow India To Snatch ‘Even One Drop’ Of Its Water: PM PAKISTAN

On Tuesday, Parliament passed the new income tax bill, replacing the six-decade-old Income Tax Act, 1961. The legislation aims to make the direct tax law easier to read, understand, and implement. The Rajya Sabha returned the bill to the Lok Sabha with a voice vote as part of the parliamentary procedure. Introduction of ‘Tax Year’ and Expanded Digital Asset Definition The new bill introduces the concept of a ‘tax year’, replacing the financial year and assessment year to reduce confusion for taxpayers. It also broadens the definition of virtual digital assets to include crypto-assets, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other digital assets as specified by the government. The legislation makes it mandatory for taxpayers to provide access to virtual spaces, including social media accounts, email servers, and cloud storage, during search operations. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) will issue standard operating procedures for handling digital data during searches, ensuring taxpayer privacy. She emphasised that the income tax department must ‘reboot’ its computer systems for the new law by April 1, 2026. Finance Minister Highlights Simplified Approach “These changes are not superficial; they reflect a new, simplified approach to tax administration. The leaner and more focused law is designed to make it easy to read, understand, and implement,” Sitharaman said while addressing the Rajya Sabha discussion. Sitharaman criticised opposition parties for staging a walkout in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, after they had done the same in the Lok Sabha the previous day. She expressed disappointment over their absence, especially after both houses had agreed to 16 hours of debate on the bill in the Business Advisory Committee. The Finance Minister stressed the importance of passing the bill on time, citing the need to upgrade the income tax department’s computer systems to implement the new law from April 1, 2026. Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 Passed In addition, Sitharaman introduced the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was also passed by the Rajya Sabha. The amendment provides tax exemptions for public investment funds of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its subsidiaries, allows partial withdrawal for subscribers of the Unified Pension Scheme, and modifies the definition of income in block assessments during search and seizure cases. Sitharaman highlighted the urgency of these measures and noted that, due to the economy, the government wants to implement these changes quickly instead of waiting for the finance bill.
