Awantipora, Sep 11, KNT: Police in Awantipora on Thursday arrested a suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Babapora Khrew and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
Officials said a police team led by SHO Khrew, Inspector Naieem Rashid, intercepted a man moving in suspicious circumstances. When signalled to stop, the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended tactfully by the police party.
During search, one gram of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Rayees Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, a resident of Sharshali Khrew.
Police said a case under FIR number 67/2025 has been registered at Police Station Khrew under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation has been initiated. [KNT]
