Says Waqf Properties Targeted, Appreciates SC’s Intervention

Srinagar, Sept 15 (KNC): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said there was no reason to arrest Doda MLA under the Public Safety Act (PSA), stressing that the matter should have been resolved without such a step.

Speaking to media persons in Srinagar CM Omar as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said, “There was no justification for invoking PSA against the MLA. I believe he should have accepted his mistake and resolved the issue. The police can continue their investigation, and if something wrong is found, accountability will follow but booking him under PSA at this stage is not justified,” Omar told reporters.

On the issue of Waqf and the Supreme Court’s recent order, Abdullah said it was unfortunate that only one community had been singled out under the new law.

“It is deeply regrettable that one religion’s properties are being targeted under this bill. I welcome the Supreme Court’s understanding of the matter,” he said. (KNC)
