Mehbooba Mufti Accuses Omar Abdullah of Continuing Post-2019 Policies, Says People See No Change

Srinagar, Oct 17, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday accused Omar Abdullah of continuing the same administrative and political practices that were introduced in Jammu and Kashmir after the constitutional changes of 2019.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Mehbooba said that instead of reversing or challenging the measures that hurt public confidence, the present government has “formalized what was already happening under the bureaucratic regime”.

“From the dismissal of government employees to random arrests and the closure of Jamaat-e-Islami schools, nothing has changed. Omar Abdullah did not speak about these issues when he was out of power, and he continues to remain silent today when he is in power,” she said.

The PDP chief accused the National Conference-led government of losing sight of immediate governance priorities and instead centring its politics on the statehood issue. “He made statehood a bigger issue than the Kashmir issue,” Mehbooba said.

She said the Chief Minister had an opportunity to demonstrate political courage by challenging anti-people measures, but has instead chosen accommodation. “Omar Abdullah kept silent on policies that have affected ordinary people. He should learn something from Arvind Kejriwal, who despite constant pressure from the BJP-led central government, continued to deliver relief to the people of Delhi,” she said. [KNT]
