Srinagar, Nov 15, KNT: Fresh details emerging on Saturday have confirmed additional fatalities and injuries in the accidental explosion that devastated Nowgam Police Station late Friday night. The toll has risen as identification progresses, with several bodies earlier listed as missing now confirmed among the deceased.
Among those killed is Naib Tehsildar Muzaffar Ahmad of Soibugh, identified as Mohammad Muzaffar Khan, son of Haji Mohammad Ramzan Khan. Officials said he had been at the police station on official duty when the blast occurred during the handling of unstable explosive material recovered in an ongoing investigation.
Crime photographer Mubashir Mansoor from Hariparigam Tral has also been confirmed dead. Two Forensic Science Laboratory personnel, two crime photographers, one Naib Tehsildar, one Mohrer to Tehsildar, one tailor and two unidentified individuals are among the confirmed casualties. Officials said that three personnel, including SHO Nowgam Peer Asrar ul Haq, remained untraced for several hours before Inspector Peer Asrar ul Haq of the State Investigation Agency was later confirmed dead. Search teams continue efforts to verify the status of the remaining missing personnel.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vidhi Kumar Birdi reached the site to assess the situation, review the structural damage and oversee the ongoing rescue and identification process.
A detailed list of the injured admitted to Hospital was also released. It includes multiple Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel from IRP, JKAP, SIA and district police units, along with one revenue official and one prisoner. At least three of the injured are reported to be in the Intensive Care Unit. Medical teams said several of the wounded have suffered serious blast trauma and are under close observation.
Officials said the assessment of damage to adjacent structures is ongoing, while identification, treatment and rescue efforts are continuing through coordinated teams of police, administration and medical staff. [KNT]
