Srinagar, Dec 18:The J&K Democratic Women’s Association has strongly condemned the incident in which the attire of a female doctor was interfered with during a public function by Chief Minister of Bihar Nitash Kumar calling it a direct assault on a woman’s dignity and constitutional rights.
“Any public interference with a woman’s attire, irrespective of intention, violates her dignity, bodily autonomy, and personal liberty guaranteed under the Constitution,” said Advocate Laila Khalid, Vice President of the J&K Democratic Women’s Association.
She stated that Articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Constitution guarantee equality, non-discrimination, and the right to live with dignity, while Article 25 protects freedom of conscience and religious expression. “Public functionaries are bound by a higher standard of conduct. Such acts undermine constitutional morality and democratic values,” she added.
Advocate Khalid warned that normalising such behaviour sets a dangerous precedent and called for accountability and an unequivocal public apology. “Women’s dignity is inviolable and non-negotiable, and any violation must be addressed in accordance with the rule of law,” she asserted.
