Srinagar, Jan 24, KNT: A power lineman was seriously injured after receiving an electric shock while carrying out repair work on an electricity transmission line in Batpora Kanihama area of Magam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.

Officials said the injured lineman has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar. The incident occurred while repair work was underway to restore the disrupted power supply in the area. Dar sustained a severe electric shock and collapsed at the site, following which he was rushed to Sub District Hospital Magam for immediate medical assistance.

Doctors at Magam hospital, after assessing his condition, referred him to a hospital in Srinagar as his condition was found to be critical. He was shifted in an ambulance for advanced treatment, officials said.

Police reached the hospital soon after the incident and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Statements of concerned staff and officials are being recorded as part of the probe.

It is pertinent to mention that power supply has been affected in several parts of the Kashmir Valley following recent heavy snowfall, which caused damage to transmission and distribution lines. Power department teams have been working continuously to restore electricity in affected areas amid harsh weather conditions.

Officials said repair works are being carried out at multiple locations across the Valley to normalize supply, adding that adverse weather and difficult terrain have increased risks for field staff during restoration operations.
