In the eighth game of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, England and Afghanistan will square off in a do-or-die encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

With both teams coming off losses in their opening matches, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament, making this a knockout match for both sides.

Afghanistan’s Recent Form & Key Players

Afghanistan entered the Champions Trophy with great promise, securing victories in recent ODI series against Ireland, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

Despite an opening defeat to South Africa, they remain a dangerous side, with Rashid Khan being the standout player for the Afghans.

If the star spinner returns to his best form, he could pose a significant challenge to England’s batting.

England’s Struggles & Resilience

England, under Jos Buttler’s leadership, has struggled for consistency in recent ODI cricket. After losing their opening match to Australia, they also faced a 3-0 series defeat against India.

However, the team boasts several experienced players from their 2019 Cricket World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup victories, meaning they are always capable of bouncing back in a high-pressure situation.

Key Players To Watch

For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan will be the key player to watch. His ability to deliver match-winning performances with the ball could make all the difference.

On the England side, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood will play a crucial role in exploiting weaknesses in Afghanistan’s batting, which struggled against South Africa’s pace attack.

This match will not only determine the fate of the two teams in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 but also provide insight into their potential for the remainder of the tournament.

The winner will keep their hopes alive, while the loser will face an early exit, heightening the intensity of this crucial clash.
