Qazigund, Feb 03 (KNO): A fire broke out at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund on Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to the building, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the blaze quickly engulfed the structure, leaving the school building gutted before it could be brought under control.

He said, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel, assisted by local residents, rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.

Ghulam Hassan, F&ES Incharge Qazigund, said the fire was later brought under control. “The cause of the fire is being ascertained, while an assessment of losses will be carried out subsequently,” he said—(KNO)
