Para asks govt to keep 305, 175 SROs in abeyance; Muntazir calls for formation of House committee

Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNO): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Pulwama, Waheed ur Rehman Para, on Wednesday urged Jammu and Kashmir government to keep SRO- 305 and SRO- 176 of the new reservation policy in abeyance until reservations are properly rationalised.

Speaking in the Assembly, Para, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the government needs to keep SRO 305 and SRO 176 (new reservation policy) of the Social Welfare Department in abeyance until reservations are rationalised and the census is completed. He said the move will automatically restore 70% to open merit.

The MLA said that currently 60 per cent of the population in Jammu and Kashmir is left with just 60 per cent of opportunities, which, he said, undermines merit and fuels discontent among the youth.

Speaking on the matter, PDP MLA Muntazir Mehdi sought the formation of a House committee solely to examine the reservation policy.

He emphasized that the current reservation policy excludes a majority of the population, limiting access to employment opportunities across the Union Territory—(KNO)
