ASHA Workers Protest in Srinagar, Seek Implementation of Minimum Wages Act

FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar, Feb 12, KNT: Accredited Social Health Activist workers on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar demanding implementation of the Minimum Wages Act and raising slogans against the National Conference government.

A large number of ASHA workers assembled in the city and voiced concern over what they described as inadequate honorarium and delay in ensuring statutory wage protections. The protesting workers demanded that they be brought under the ambit of the Minimum Wages Act and provided remuneration in accordance with government norms.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the demonstrators said they have been rendering essential health services at the grassroots level for years but continue to face financial insecurity. They urged the government to acknowledge their contribution in strengthening public health outreach and to address their demands without further delay.

The protesting workers said they would continue to press for their rights until concrete steps are taken to ensure fair compensation and job security.

Police personnel were present at the site to maintain law and order. The protest concluded peacefully. [KNT]
