Srinagar, September 26 : P.K. Pole, the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed strong optimism regarding the upcoming third phase of Assembly elections, forecasting a significant voter turnout driven by the enthusiasm generated during the first two phases.

During a press conference in Bandipora, Pole praised the peaceful execution of previous elections and assured voters that extensive arrangements are in place for the election scheduled on October 1.

“The first two phases occurred peacefully in the Valley, thanks to the cooperation of the people and the security forces who maintained order,” he stated, reflecting on the collaborative efforts that contributed to a smooth electoral process.

Pole noted the growing eagerness among citizens to participate in the democratic process, saying, “People now wait in long queues to cast their votes and participate in this festival of democracy.” His remarks underscored a notable shift in public sentiment towards electoral engagement.

Providing insights into the logistical preparations, Pole mentioned that “we have set up 312 polling stations in Bandipora district, and the Election Commission of India has completed all formalities for the elections.” His earlier visit to border areas affirmed his confidence in community readiness, with locals expressing excitement for election day: “People are eagerly waiting for election day,” he noted.

Addressing concerns about potential disruptions, especially in the border regions of north Kashmir, Pole assured that the administration is equipped with a contingency plan. “If any disruption happens during the election in these areas, we are ready with Plan B,” he stated, highlighting the commitment to maintaining a seamless electoral process.

Pole also conveyed confidence in the security landscape, asserting, “Our borders are peaceful, and we hope it will remain so on poll day.” This assurance is critical as the region approaches the election, where voter turnout is expected to reflect the strong engagement seen in previous rounds.

As the countdown to the third phase unfolds, the enthusiasm among voters in Jammu and Kashmir is palpable, with hopes that this phase will replicate the successful turnout experienced earlier. The collaborative efforts of the Election Commission, coupled with the proactive involvement of local communities, are poised to foster a vibrant electoral atmosphere on October 1.(KINS)

JAMMU, Apr 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday inaugurated the Dr Raj Kumar Thapa memorial museum and library, dedicated to the legacy of the additional district development commissioner, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Thapa lost his life on (May 10) last year when a Pakistani artillery shell hit his residential quarters in the border district during unprovoked shelling linked to Operation Sindoor. He is survived by his wife, a doctor, and their two children. Paying tributes, the lieutenant governor recalled Thapa’s selfless service and unwavering commitment to public welfare, saying the memorial would serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come, an official spokesperson said. A documentary highlighting Thapa’s life and service was also screened on the occasion, he said. Family members of Thapa, along with senior officials of the security forces, police and civil administration, were present at the event. A 2001-batch Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer, Thapa (54) was widely respected for his professional dedication and people-friendly approach.
