Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday to a rousing welcome from thousands of people lining the streets.

The Prime Minister is in the city to inaugurate key infrastructure projects, including the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, and to lay the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Metro network.

The Prime Minister landed at HAL Airport in a special flight before boarding a helicopter to the HQTC Helipad at Mekhri Circle.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and other senior leaders greeted him warmly.

From there, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station. He formally flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Belagavi.

BJP National Yuva Morcha President and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit. “He is laying the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Metro. Once the services begin, around 10 lakh people will commute by Metro every day. Similarly, the Yellow Line Metro, which will be inaugurated today, will benefit 18 lakh people in the Bengaluru South region,” Surya said.

He added that the Prime Minister personally ensured there was no delay in the inauguration. “I had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Yellow Line Metro Project in Bengaluru. The Prime Minister maintained that any further delay in inaugurating these projects was not acceptable, as the Metro services would provide relief to the people of Bengaluru suffering from traffic congestion. He fixed the inauguration date within a period of just seven to eight days,” Surya remarked.

“I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the people of Bengaluru and Karnataka,” he said.

Flagging Off Multiple Train Services

At KSR Railway Station, the Prime Minister flagged off not only the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express but also new services on the Amritsar–Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur–Pune routes. Railway officials expect these additions to boost intercity connectivity and significantly reduce travel times.

Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister travelled to the Ragi Gudda Metro Station, from where he officially inaugurated the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro. He then boarded the train for a ride to Electronics City Metro Station, interacting with commuters along the way.

Later in the day, PM Modi attended a public function at the IIIT Auditorium in Electronics City, where he laid the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro. This expansion will further extend the network, connecting more residential and commercial hubs to the city’s transport grid.

On the social media platform X, the Prime Minister posted in Kannada ahead of his visit, “Look forward to being among the people of Bengaluru tomorrow, 10th August. From the KSR Railway Station, 3 Vande Bharat Express trains will be flagged off, which will enhance connectivity. In a boost for Bengaluru’s urban infrastructure, the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro will be inaugurated. The foundation stone of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 will be laid. Will also be addressing a public programme in the city.”
