Jr. Assistant of Rural Development Department Convicted in Anantnag Trap Case

Anantnag, Aug 23 (KNC): The Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Anantnag, Ms. Masarat Roohi, has convicted Habibullah Kumar, a Junior Assistant in the Rural Development Department, in a trap case and sentenced him to two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of ₹21,000.

Details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, judgment of rhe case, with FIR No. 25/2009, was delivered today and was registered by the then Vigilance Organization Kashmir (now ACB) on September 10, 2009, following a complaint from Bashir Ahmad Dar, a helper in the Block Development Office, Larkipora.

The complainant alleged that after he and five other helpers were given promotions, Habibullah Kumar, the in-charge of establishment, demanded a bribe of ₹1,800 to prepare their arrear bills.

During the investigation, a successful trap was laid, and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. After the completion of the investigation, the charge sheet was filed before the competent court. The prosecution of the case was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor Ajaz Ahmad Parvaiz.

The court, after examining the prosecution witnesses and hearing both the Special Public Prosecutor and the Defence Counsel, convicted the accused of charges under Section 5(1)(d) read with Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006.

The court also ruled that in default of non-payment of the fine amount, the accused would have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment. (KNC)
