Srinagar, Sep 11, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly criticised the administration led by the Lieutenant Governor for detaining elected representatives, saying the recent developments reflect poorly on the state of affairs in the region.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said, “Not everything is good in Jammu and Kashmir. First, they arrested an MLA under PSA and now they have detained a Rajya Sabha member. They are not doing good. They are harsh even towards us. Nothing is right here. Whatever is happening is not good.”

Omar Abdullah asserted that if the administration had any issues with MLA Mehraj Malik, it should have taken up the matter with the Speaker of the Assembly instead of invoking the Public Safety Act (PSA).

“I advised the father of Mehraj Malik offering him help. The lawyer from outside won’t be of much assistance as PSA is implemented only in J&K. A local lawyer experienced in contesting these cases will be helpful,” the Chief Minister added.

His remarks come amid growing political concern over the detention of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik under PSA, an issue that has sparked widespread debate across the political spectrum [KNT]
