Shopian, Oct 22, KNT: In a remarkable initiative aimed at promoting sportsmanship and intensifying the fight against drug abuse, Shopian Police on Tuesday organised a Police Volleyball Tournament at Heerpora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The event drew a massive response from local youth, sports enthusiasts, and locals who gathered in large numbers to witness the matches and support the cause of a drug-free society.
Held under the civic action programme of Shopian Police, the tournament sought to engage the younger generation in positive and healthy activities while channeling their energy towards productive goals. Several teams from different parts of the district participated, showcasing their skills, discipline, and enthusiasm.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Chowdhary, inaugurated the tournament and emphasised the crucial role of sports in keeping young people away from drugs and other social vices. “Let’s help each other and stand united to eradicate drugs from Shopian. Our youth are the strength of our society, and their active participation in sports and education is the key to a prosperous and peaceful future,” the SSP said.
Chowdhary added that Shopian Police has been consistently conducting awareness drives, sports competitions, and cultural events to spread the message of a drug-free society. He urged parents, teachers, and community members to play an active role in guiding the youth towards constructive pursuits.
Several speakers at the event lauded the police for its outreach and commitment to connecting with young people through sports. The matches were played in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and camaraderie, with the audience cheering for the teams throughout the tournament.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies and medals among the winning and runner-up teams. Participants expressed gratitude to Shopian Police for organising the tournament and pledged to support the campaign against drug abuse.
