Awantipora: Aashaq khanday/19 Nov 2025:
A crucial Sensitization Programme centered on Inclusive Education for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) was successfully organized today at Primary School (PS) Larkipora. The event was held under the Environmental Building Programme, an initiative of Samagra Shiksha designed to leverage the physical school environment to promote social awareness and equity.
The entire event was a testament to the dedication of the Special Educators of the Inclusive Education Wing, who played an integral role in organizing the programme and ensuring its smooth and meaningful execution.
The objective of the programme was to foster a unified approach among key community stakeholders for the educational and social inclusion of CWSN. It was conducted in collaboration with the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Awantipora, and the Inclusive Education Wing of Samagra Shiksha.
The proceedings were expertly anchored, moderated, and managed by Mr. Aashaq Khanday, who set the stage for an insightful and productive dialogue throughout the session.
The programme featured key addresses from educational and district-level experts, providing both policy direction and specialized insight:
Mr. Javid Ahmad Bhat, District Coordinator (Inclusive Education Unit, Pulwama),provided a strategic overview. He highlighted that the environmental context of the school must be utilized as a resource for learning and inclusion. He stated: “Inclusive Education is not merely about enrollment; it’s about ensuring the architectural, social, and pedagogical environment of the school adapts to the unique needs of every child. Our goal is to shift the narrative from ‘special schools’ to ‘special efforts’ within every regular school.”
Mr. Mohd Amin Padder, ZEO Awantipora, delivered a crucial address, emphasizing the core issues faced by CWSN and strongly underlining the responsibility of the community and the formal education system in creating a truly enabling and supportive environment for them.
Dr. Rouf Ahmad Thoker provided a specialized insight, deeply analyzing the core issues and specific requirements that children with special needs encounter in their daily lives and educational settings.
Mr. Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a well-regarded teacher, effectively connected abstract concepts to reality by delivering a discourse that included live examples from the environment, making the challenges and solutions immediately relatable to the participants.
Strong Community Engagement and Heartfelt Performances
The event saw enthusiastic and active participation from the grassroots level, including Parents, Asha Workers, and ICDS Workers, demonstrating a collective commitment to implementing inclusive practices within the zone.
A poignant highlight of the programme was the cultural segment, where CWSN children themselves recited verses of Tilawat (Quranic recitation) and a soulful Naat (praise poetry). This moving performance resonated deeply, melting the hearts of the participants and serving as a powerful reminder of the immense potential and talent residing within children with special needs.
The Sensitization Programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Firdaus Ahmad Sheikh, who acknowledged the immense support and constructive engagement of all the participants, stating that such collaborative efforts are vital for the success of Inclusive Education initiatives.
